Radio Society of Great Britain
Hay Wood Sun 15 Nov
Summary
The event is being run on a Sunday and incorporated into an Orienteering event promoted by the Octavian Droobers Orienteering Club. Short and long courses will be available using the 144 MHz band in the morning and there will be a FoxOring competition on the 3.5 MHz band after lunch.
Location
Hay Wood - an area of reasonably flat woodland situated just to the north of the M40.
The car park will be at SP206706.
Directions
Hay Wood is located to the west of the A4141, seven miles northwest of Warwick.
From the north and west turn off the M42 at junction 5 towards Knowle on the A4141. Continue for another three miles beyond Knowle. At Chadwick End turn right into Baddesley Clinton, then left after 1/3 mile along a single track road to Hay Wood (follow the ‘O’ signs and the Hay Wood picnic area signs).
From the south and east turn off the A46 near Warwick onto the A4177. After five miles, at the roundabout, take the A4141 towards Solihull. After two miles turn hard left just at the start of Chadwick End then follow the signs as above.
There will be no ARDF presence in the main car park. The Registration, ARDF Start and ARDF Finish will all be co-located in the picnic area at SP206708. This is also the location of the Orienteering start and finish.

Format of Event
The event will conform to the general principles of IARU events, but will be less formal than a Championship. For the 144MHz event there will be a maximum of five transmitters and an MO beacon at the finish which must be punched. Competitors can elect to hunt all five 'foxes' or a specified four. SI electronic punching will be used for this competition.
For the 144MHz event, the transmitters will be separated by at least 300m (and not the normal 400m) but the nearest transmitter to the Start may be as close as 400m (IARU rules state 750m).
The 3.5 MHz competition will be a FoxOring competition with foxes worth different numbers of points. Pin punching will be used for this competition. Each transmitter will be marked by a pin punch - there will be no 'banner'.
There will be a 45 minute time limit with swingeing penalties for being overtime. The winner will be the competitor with the most points. This will be a one class event and there will be a mass start.

Entries
Entry fee is £6. This fee is paid to the Octavian Droobers O Club after the event by the organisers, to cover the cost of land access, map, loo hire and to the RSGB for use of the electronic punching equipment.
It would assist the smooth running of the event if you are able to contact Bob Titterington to indicate the 144MHz course you wish to run together with your SI dibber number. Your entry can then be pre-entered into the computer system and this will speed things up on the day.
The results will be posted on this web site as soon as possible after the event.
Procedures
Registration, Start and Finish for the ARDF event will be located in the picnic area adjacent to the orienteering start.
In accordance with the informality of the event the organisers will not require you to deposit your receiver in a pound before the transmitters start sending. They do expect you to respect the spirit of this concession by refraining from using your receiver until reporting to officials in the start area and then only under their supervision.
Both the orienteering event and the 144 MHz ARDF event are using electronic punching. The Radio O are using SI and the Orienteers are using Emit.
Safety
Competitors are responsible for their own safety and take part at their own risk. No smoking in the forest. Whistles should be carried (the emergency signal is 6 blasts repeated at 1 minute intervals).
Loan Equipment
Receivers for both 144MHz and 3.5MHz and SI cards are available on loan. Telephone the organiser (number below) to reserve.
